Does the coffee company Starbucks have official branches in Iraq?
Several pages on social media platforms circulated the following news: "A short while ago in Baghdad, the second branch of the international chain of Starbucks cafe stores opened in the Jadriya area, in front of the University of Baghdad, in the presence of a group of famous sports, art and diplomatic celebrities in Iraq."
The truth:
1- The circulating news regarding the opening of an official branch of the famous coffee company Starbucks in Iraq is false, as the official websites of the agency did not announce this news, in addition to the fact that there is no first branch that was initially opened in the country. In the event of opening any official branch in Iraq, it will be announced through the "Starbucks Middle East" website.
2- We contacted the Starbucks company website and the agency’s website in the Middle East, where they confirmed that they don't have any stores in Iraq, noting that the branches in the Middle East are “Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Emirates, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Morocco.
By searching in the "Starbucks" company map for locating its cafes and stores around the world, it was found that there are no stores inside Iraq.
It should be noted that the stores that opened in Iraq did not adopt the registered trade name of the agency as it was written in capital letters STARBUCKS, while the commercial name of the agency writes only the first letter of it in capital and the rest of the letters are written in lowercase “Starbucks,” and the company’s history goes back to 1971 when the first store was opened at Pike Place Market in Seattle.
Moreover, the news of the opening of the first "Starbucks" cafe in Baghdad in 2016 and 2020 was previously circulated, and the truth about the news was clarified on our page at the time.
Starbucks is the world's largest coffeehouse chain globally, as the company has several branches and stores across the globe. According to the statistics of 2020, there are 32,660 cafes around the world.
