What Is The Truth about The Video Circulating That It Belongs To A Secret Prison In Jurf Sakhar In The Babil Governorate?

A video circulated on social media platforms with a text that reads: “Scenes from a secret prison that contains thousands of Sunni sheikhs and young people in Jurf al-Sakhr in Babil Governorate, Shiite militias devoted to Iran arrested them and put them in detention, for the accusation of being (Sunni).”

The Truth

The circulating video is old. It was posted on YouTube channels and social media in mid-September 2017, with the title: “They saw young people accused of various issues, including alcohol and drug use in Basra prisons,” That is not as it was claimed that the video was recently recorded in one of the secret prisons in the province of Babylon for a certain sect.

The video was previously circulated and claimed to belong to the Basra Central Prison of the Iraqi Reform Department. At the time, the Iraqi Ministry of Justice denied the details mentioned in the recorded clip after it was misleadingly posted on social media and put titles about violations in Basra Central Prison on July 15, 2017.

The ministry said in a statement, "This news is untrue, and these fabricated photos are of the Mohandessin Police Station / Anti-Narcotics Department in Basra."

The statement explained that "Basra Central Prison meets international human rights standards and is one of the prisons visited by human rights monitoring teams, whether local or international, in line with the ministry's approach in observing human rights," according to what it said.
