What Is The Truth About National Geographic Choosing Erbil city In The List of The Best Cities To Visit For 2023?

A piece of news circulated on social media platforms with the following text: "Hawler" (Erbil) is on the list of the 17 best cities in the world. The American "National Geographic" magazine published in its latest releases a list of 17 cities and places around the world that are recommended for tourists in the world to visit in the next year 2023, and it was the city of "Hawler," the capital of the Kurdistan Region."

The Truth:

The news is fabricated because the (National Geographic) magazine has not issued any list recently that includes cities that are recommended for tourists for 2023.

The magazine also issues a list of the best tourist destinations annually that it recommends for visits for the following year in November of the year prior, and we are now in October, and the magazine has not issued its list for this year yet, Moreover, the city of Erbil was not mentioned in the list issued in November 2021 of The best tourist destinations for the year 2022.

It is noteworthy that the magazine had chosen the city of Erbil on its list on November 21, 2013, for the best destinations for a visit for the year 2014, and the magazine described Erbil as:

"One of the oldest populated cities in the world, which will make you forget everything you heard about Iraq"

Shedding light on its castle, which is located in the historical center of the city, the landscapes of the mountains, and authentic Kurdish dishes.

The National Geographic Magazine provides its lists in addition to the cities to travel as the best time to go, how to wander, places of residence, what you eat, drink, what you buy, and so much more.
