Does the photo show Ismail Musbah sitting with Jewish people from Israel?
A photo was circulated on social media as showing the brother of the former governor of Basra (Ismail Musbah Al-Waeli) sitting with Israelis.
The truth
The attached claim is incorrect, as the photo brings together Al-Waeli with an Iraqi TikToker called (Abu Arra) who lives outside Iraq and works to publish satirical video clips, and the circulated photo is behind the scenes of an episode that was previously shown in February 2024, entitled “A high-level Israeli meeting discusses the danger of Abu Azrael and Abu Alaa Al-Walai on Israeli national security.”
Al-Waeli also recently appeared in a video clip in which he denied the rumors circulating about his being subjected to an assassination attempt with knives in Geneva, where he appeared with the so-called (Abu Arra) and they mocked the news, stressing that they were in Germany and not in Geneva.
It is noteworthy that in 2022, the Karkh Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant and a seven-year prison sentence in absentia against (Al-Waeli) on charges of insulting public authorities and official departments represented by the Supreme Judicial Council and the courts.
