Does the video show Syrians receiving a salary in Turkey?

Circulated on social media is a video accompanied by the text: "Syrians receiving their salaries in Turkey."

The Truth

The circulated post is incorrect. The video does not show Syrians in Turkey as claimed. By observing the currency shown in the video, it is evident that it is Iranian currency, and upon closer inspection, the image of Iranian Revolution leader (Khomeini) is printed on the currency. Additionally, the attire of the women in the video is characteristic of Iranian clothing.

Moreover, the video was recorded in Iraq, specifically on Al-Sadra Street in Karbala province. A volunteer from the Tech for Peace team went to the location where the video was shot and took some photos that showed landmarks of the same place:

1. The currency exchange outlet and the small generator in front of it.

2. The buildings in the background (hotel, nut store).

3. The trees.

4. The toy store next to the currency exchange outlet.

From its side, the (Disinformation Combat Center) under the Turkish Presidential Communications Directorate denied the circulated news in a statement dated June 13, 2024, confirming that "the claim that Syrians are receiving salaries in Turkey is false."
