What is the truth about the discovery of a giant skull in Sri Lanka?
Images circulated on social media accompanied by text stating, “A giant skull more than 10 feet tall and 37,000 years old has been discovered in Sri Lanka.”
The truth
The attached claim is misleading and incorrect, as each image relates to a specific event, as follows:
1- The image on the left shows a woman next to a skull, which belongs to the skull of an elephant, and shows several results similar to the picture of the skull.
2- The second image to the top right, shows a skull alone. The skull belongs to a woman with hyperplasia of the pituitary gland, and her height reached 7 feet and 2 inches. More than 2,500 skeletons were found in the same cemetery.
3- The third image at the bottom right, which shows a person next to a giant skull, is incorrect and was generated by artificial intelligence, as the website (Hive Moderation), which specializes in detecting images generated by artificial intelligence, showed that it was created digitally at a rate of 98.4%. This can be noted that there are several errors (distortions) in the image indicating that it is not real.
Meanwhile, Guinness World Records stated that the largest skull documented in medical literature belongs to a man with a cranial capacity of 1,980 cubic centimeters.
