The circulated picture of the Husseini procession is fabricated, as it has been edited to add the phrase “Iraq atheist procession,” instead of the original image “The procession of the people of Zummar” that appears in the original picture which was posted in September of 2019 for the Husseini mourning council in the city of Tal Afar - Ninava governorate, north of Iraq.
We have already clarified the truth of this picture twice after it was circulated in 2021 and 2022.
The circulation of this fake picture coincides with the start of the sacred month of Muharram, which evidenced by the start of several religious rites, and Muslims celebrate the Husseini rites.
What about the Husseini rituals?
Shiites honor with sadness, tears and feasts the Ashura memorial (the tenth of Muharram) every year.
It is the day on which Imam Hussein bin Ali, grandson of the Prophet Mohammad, was martyred in the Battle of Taf in Karbala, and the largest Ashura ceremony takes place in the Iraqi city of Karbala, where the shrine of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).
