Is the circulated photo belonging to the Moroccan child Rayan, and was he taken out of the well?
Several pages on social media platforms circulated a photo attached with the following text: “Morocco, thank God, the child Rayan was taken out safely and healthy. The five-year-old Moroccan child Rayan, after spending more than 39 hours while he was inside a well more than 30 meters deep, did not give up. He looked exhausted after he was provided with oxygen.”
The truth:
1- The attempt to rescue the Moroccan child Rayan who fell into the well, is still going on until the moment of writing this article, and his rescue has not been officially reported.
Note that the five-year-old fell into a deep well in the town of Tamorot in the Chefchaouen province in northern Morocco, the depth of which was estimated to be more than 30 meters.
2- The photos attached to the claim belong to the rescue of a one-and-a-half-year-old child in Mosul, Iraq, after he fell into a well “50 meters deep and with a narrow diameter not exceeding half a meter only” on October 17, 2021.
The Civil Defense stated on its Facebook page that "it was impossible to unload a man from the Civil Defense due to the narrowness of the well, a volunteer boy with a slender body helped, his feet were tied, and he was lowered vertically to the bottom of the well to be able to reach the child, and he carried him tightly so that the two were then lifted.”
The rescue forces added that the child and the boy reached the top of the well "peacefully, with the speedy provision of first aid to the child, and thankfully, his health condition was stable."
The Civil Defense published a video clip that showed the process of lifting the boy and the child with him, amid encouragement from the attendees who encouraged the boy by chanting “Oh hero,” before the symptoms of dizziness appeared on the boy who was immediately supplied with oxygen. The directorate also published photos of the young child and the size of the well after he was taken out.
