"What is the truth about the photo published by the Iranian media claiming to show the Kurdish businessman Peshraw Dizayee with a Jewish rabbi?"

Several Iranian media outlets have published a photo showing the Kurdish businessman Peshraw Majid Agha, known as Peshraw Dizayee, who was recently assassinated in a missile strike by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard on his residence in Erbil, with a Jewish rabbi, claiming it was taken on the Jewish Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur).

The truth:

The circulated image is fabricated; the original version was altered by replacing a Jewish person named (Elan Nissim) with (Peshraw Dizayee), showing him with the Chief Rabbi of Russia (Berel Lazar). Nessim originally shared the unmodified picture on his Facebook account in 2019, featuring him with the Russian rabbi and Russian President (Vladimir Putin), along with other photos.

Elan Nissim, according to accounts showing his name on social media platforms, posts texts in Hebrew and indicates his location in the United States at times and in Israel at other times. His accounts also suggest that he is the founder of a security network named (TASA ELITE). According to information available on its official website, this network is described as a "global network focusing on combating terrorism related to human trafficking, drugs, and arms trade." The network includes over 900 "active agents" with diverse backgrounds, including intelligence officials, government officials, military generals, as well as individuals like drivers and chefs. The network's activities are concentrated in countries such as Iran, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, Qatar, Turkey, and Libya.

The fabrication of the image and its circulation, along with these claims, followed the missile strike by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard on Erbil on January 15, 2024. The Guard claimed to have destroyed spy headquarters and gatherings of terrorist groups hostile to Iran. However, the National Security Advisor (Qasim Al-Araji) and the head of the investigation committee into the attack on Erbil denied the Iranian allegations after inspecting the targeted site, stating,

"The claims about targeting a Mossad headquarters are baseless."
