What is the truth behind the circulated video about the construction of a Kaaba in Nigeria and the circumambulation around it?
Circulating on social media is a video accompanied by the text: "Nigeria builds a replica of the Kaaba and sets a symbolic price for people who couldn't go for Hajj and Umrah to perform it at a lower cost in this place."
The Truth
The attached claim is incorrect. The video shows a model of the Kaaba in (Kano) State, Nigeria, intended to educate people on how to perform Hajj rituals before they travel to Mecca.
Therefore, the video does not represent actual Hajj rituals for those who cannot afford to go to Saudi Arabia for Hajj, as was claimed.
Additionally, we found video clips from previous years shared by the official page of the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board, showing people being taught the rituals of Tawaf and stoning of the Jamarat.
Additionally, similar video clips have been circulated in previous years, showing people circumambulating around a replica of the Kaaba to learn the Hajj rituals before traveling to Mecca.
Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Suleiman Dederi, mentioned to the (PRNigeria) team that the video shows:
"Practical training that has been ongoing for over 20 years." He added that in the camp, people preparing for Hajj are taught "all other Hajj rituals, including Sa'i between Safa and Marwah and the stoning of Jamarat," before traveling to Saudi Arabia.
