What is the truth about a Saudi swimmer named (Mohammed Al-Shalhoub) coming in last out of 47 in the Olympics?
A photo was circulated on social media with the text "Saudi swimmer Mohammed Al-Shalhoub, nicknamed the Shark, ranked 47th out of 47 competitors in the Paris Olympics."
The truth
The circulated claim is false, as no Saudi swimmer named (Mohammed Al-Shalhoub) participated in the 2024 Paris Olympics, and the first swimmer to represent Saudi Arabia in the Paris Olympics was (Zaid Al-Sarraj) in the 100-meter freestyle competition, and he is considered the youngest Saudi player in the Olympics.
The player (Mashael Al-Ayed) also participated in the 200-meter freestyle competition in the Olympics, and achieved sixth place with a time of 00:02:19:61. Al-Ayed is considered the first Saudi swimmer in the Paris Olympics and the first woman in the history of Saudi swimming to participate in the Olympics.
As for the attached photo, it is old, dating back to the Ethiopian swimmer (Robel Kiros Habte), during his participation in the Rio 2016 Olympics for the first time, where he ranked last among the competitors in the 100-meter freestyle race.
Note that we previously clarified the truth of the same post after it was circulated at the beginning of last May.
