Did the Minister of Higher Education, Naim Al-Aboudi, Make A Statement About Obligating Female Students To Wear Hijab In Iraqi Universities?

A statement circulated on social media platforms: "The Minister of Higher Education, Naim Al-Aboudi, we will solve the non-hijabi problem in Iraqi universities and oblige female students to wear the Islamic hijab."

 

The Truth

The circulating news is false, and the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research (Naim Al-Aboudi) did not make a similar statement. There is also no discussion about obligating female students to wear hijab, and local news websites did not address such a decision.

 

Earlier on Thursday, October 27, 2022, the House of Representatives voted to grant its confidence to (Al-Aboudi) to become Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the government of Prime Minister (Mohammed Shiaa Al-Sudani).

 

What do you know about Naim Al-Aboudi?

Naim Abd Yasser Al-Aboudi, a member of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, was born in the Dhi Qar Governorate in 1978. He was a member of the Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq movement in 2006. He worked as a culture and guidance officer, ideological education official, vice-chairman of the Executive Council, member of the Political Bureau, media spokesperson for the Political Bureau and Assistant Secretary-General for Media Affairs, Media Adviser to the Secretary-General, Official Spokesman for Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq Movement, and Member of Parliament for the Sadiqoun Bloc for the 2018-2021 parliamentary session.
