What is the truth about Facebook automatically posting photos or videos of the user?

A claim has been circulating on social media: "Unfortunately, in a new update from Facebook, it is possible to select personal photos or videos from your phone and download them, whether a post or a story, on its own. Go in and change the settings as shown in the pictures.”

clarification

The claim is inaccurate, as the (customized sharing suggestions) feature does not include the Facebook application automatically publishing the media (photos, videos) on the user’s phone through his account, as was claimed.

It only suggests photos and video clips from the camera roll so that the user can publish them himself if he desires, and not the application on its own without the user’s knowledge or consent.

This feature can be disabled or activated by following these steps:

1. At the top of the in-app feed, tap Create Story.

2. In the upper-right corner, tap the adjustment icon

3. Click on (Camera Roll Sharing Suggestions).

4. Turn the toggle (Personalized sharing suggestions from the camera roll) on or off.

According to Facebook's Help Center, when a user enables the app to create more personalized suggestions, Facebook uses additional data from its camera to evaluate its content using machine learning.

Using this additional Camera Roll data, Facebook creates higher-quality suggestions for what to share. The user can also enable or disable more personalized suggestions at any time.

Personalized sharing suggestions use metadata on a user's photos and videos on their device. Some of the metadata used by the Facebook app includes:

1. The date the photos or videos were taken.

2. Your favorite photos or videos.

3. Photo types, such as panoramic photos, time-lapse photos, front camera photos, and more.
