What is the truth about the alleged arrest warrant against the General Director of Popular Mobilization Security, Hussein Faleh Al-Lami?
A photo of an arrest and investigation warrant circulated on social media against (Hussein Faleh Aziz Al-Lami), whose position is mentioned in the warrant as "Deputy Chief of Staff of the Popular Mobilization Authority". Regarding the charge, it was mentioned that the warrant was issued according to Article "(28/Narcotics)" of the Iraqi Penal Code.
The truth
Upon researching to verify the news about the issuance of an arrest warrant against Al-Lami, we did not find any source confirming this. Moreover, none of the judicial or security authorities announced such news. Regarding the circulated arrest and investigation warrant, it is fake. It was modified from an arrest and investigation warrant issued by (Al-Karkh First Investigation Court) against (Ismail Musbah Al-Waeli) in 2022, numbered (2022-29-2-347), which is the same number as the fake warrant against Al-Lami.
- The fabricator of the alleged warrant made several mistakes that we have identified, as follows:
Upon reviewing the website of the Popular Mobilization Authority, we find that (Hussein Faleh Aziz Al-Lami) holds the position of (General Director of the General Directorate of Security and Discipline in the Popular Mobilization Authority) and holds the rank of (Lieutenant General), while the fake warrant mentions that he holds the position of (Deputy Chief of Staff of the Popular Mobilization Authority).
- The font used to write the information is different from the font used in the rest of the document's text, indicating that the name and other fields were added later.
- The warrant number consists of several segments, the first of which is the year the warrant was issued. However, in the fake warrant, the number starts with 2022, while it should start with 2024 to indicate the current year.
- The fabricator of the warrant intentionally drew attention to the charge by writing the word (Narcotics) after the legal article number. However, upon reviewing other copies of arrest warrants issued by the (Al-Karkh First Investigation Court), we find that they only mention the article number and the law number without naming the charge.
- The fabricator attributed Article (28 related to a narcotics offense) to the (Iraqi Penal Code), whereas it actually belongs to the (Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Law) No. 50 of 2017.
For his part, (Mohanad Al-Aqabi), the General Director of the Media Directorate in the Popular Mobilization Authority, denied the authenticity of the circulated warrant. Al-Aqabi posted a copy of it on his account on the X platform, accompanied by the word "fake".
